Annual Parochial Church Meeting

At our annual meeting last month, three Church Wardens were elected. Craig Orr continues to look after the fabric of the Church making sure that our buildings are well maintained and lit. Brian Pratt also continues to serve, especially in the vital area of Safeguarding. Andrea North resumes after a break, and is responsible for looking after the music and choir at the 9.15am service, as well as the finances of the church as part of a dedicated team, which includes Janet Crossman, Martin Porritt and Anne Newby. Martin has stood down as Warden but will continue to serve on the PCC. His financial expertise and all round wisdom is much appreciated.

Parochial Church Council members also elected are: Paul Brough,
Viv Buckley, Neale Clark, Derek Coombes, Janet Crossman, who is our Treasurer, John Ellis, Michael Keeton, who is our Deanery Synod Representative, Rose Lee, PCC Secretary, Susan Lee, Roger Parker and Martin Porritt. Mavis Rowley has stood down after many years of faithful service on the PCC. We are very grateful for her prayerful and wise leadership on the PCC and at St Paul’s over many years.
At the beginning of my address to the meeting we remembered with fondness faithful people who died last year; Kathleen Malham, Dorothy Newby, Gerald Philips, Julia Parsons, Samantha Noble, Malcolm Handley and Enid Tunnicliffe.

I also commended a few who have shown great energy and commitment in a variety of ways;
Joanna Smith for her leadership of Worship at the 10.45am service, and her serving for 6 years heading up hospitality at Families@4.

Barbara Brown for her loyal service at St Paul's and her work for St Catherine’s Food Bank.
Helen Tweedle for her leadership of the 20’s Group with Hannah Rowe, and her ministry at St Paul's.

Andy Brooke and Richard Baxendale for their inspired preaching and commitment to prayer.
Steve Thorndike for hosting a house group with Joss, and his work at St Catherine's Food Bank and the Samaritans.

These faithful folk represent many more who serve Christ with the gifts which the Holy Spirit has given them, and who are a blessing to the church and the wider community.

As you can read in the Annual Report, there is so much good and effective ministry going on. So the vision for this year is keep on going, with the strength that God gives us through the Holy Spirit, so that we continue to fulfil our calling, to keep our relationship to Jesus Christ alive, to brighten up other people’s lives, to care for and encourage others, to draw them closer to God, as we worship, pray, love and serve in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
